Employment and law
Would it be cheaper to hire our own staff?
The short answer
For continuous, predictable work yes; for occasional peaks no. An employee pays off when there is work for them every week. For someone hired to cover two events a month, the idle time and the employer admin cost more than the agency fee. The break-even sits roughly where monthly hours reach part-time.
Why that is
The calculation isn't only wages: recruitment, training, payroll, cover during holiday and sickness, and the risk of not having enough people exactly when the peak arrives. Those are all line items already inside an agency hourly rate.
In practice most event organisers run a mix: one or two permanent key people who know the processes, and hired headcount for the peaks. If that model appeals, the coordination track supports it directly, because the hired people sit within your own employment.
