What's worth knowing

Short, concrete answers to the questions we get asked most. With numbers, not generalities.

How much does a hostess cost in 2026?

Hostesses in Hungary are billed at an hourly rate. If the agency is the employer, a fully managed rate in 2026 typically runs between 4,200 and 7,200 HUF per hour on an eight-hour day, depending on the task and the languages, with a four-hour minimum. If the client is the employer, only the coordination fee applies, 700 to 1,600 HUF per hour, and the client pays the wage directly (typically 1,800 to 3,400 HUF an hour) plus the 4,800 HUF daily EFO public charge, for a total of roughly 3,100 to 5,600 HUF an hour. The charge is a daily item, so a four-hour shift costs more per hour than an eight-hour one.

How many waiters do you need for a wedding?

For tray or plated service, plan one waiter per 15-20 guests; for a buffet, one per 30-40. A 120-guest plated wedding therefore usually needs 6-8 waiters plus 1-2 bar staff. If there's a cocktail hour, a drinks bar or a midnight course, add one or two extra people for the peaks.

Hostess or promoter: which one do you need?

A hostess welcomes, registers and escorts guests: a more passive, protocol-oriented role, usually at an event. A promoter actively approaches people, demonstrates a product and sells: campaign work, in-store or on the street. If your goal is guest experience, book a hostess; if your goal is units sold or leads captured, book a promoter.

Event staffing checklist: what to arrange and when

For a larger event, book staff 3-4 weeks ahead, send the brief no later than a week before, and have the team on site 60-90 minutes before doors. Urgent bookings can be staffed within 24 hours, but with less room to cast the right people.

How to choose a staffing agency

What separates a good staffing agency isn't the hourly rate, it's what happens when something goes wrong. Ask how they select people, who your on-site contact is, what the replacement procedure is, and what's inside the rate. Without clear answers to those, the hourly rate tells you very little.

EFO or staff leasing: which should you choose?

Simplified employment (EFO) is for genuinely occasional work: a single event, a few shifts. Its advantage is a fixed, low public charge, 4,800 HUF per worker per day in 2026, and below the tax-exempt threshold the worker owes no personal income tax. Its drawback is the day limits: at most 5 consecutive days, 15 days in a month and 120 days in a year with the same employer. For anything longer or continuous, staff leasing is the right form, though it is a licensed activity in Hungary. The practical rule is simple: if the work really is occasional, EFO; if it's a continuous labour need, leasing.

How many staff do you need for an event?

Staff headcount doesn't follow from guest numbers but from how the event is structured and where its load peaks. The most-used rules of thumb: at a conference, two registration staff per hundred attendees; at a seated dinner, one waiter per fifteen to twenty guests; at a buffet, one per thirty to forty; in the cloakroom, one per two hundred guests when the event closes together; and at a festival gate, two people per gate. The governing principle, though, is this: size for the peak, not the daily average. At a conference half the attendees arrive in the twenty minutes before the start; at a sporting event most of the crowd comes in the forty minutes before kick-off.
