Employment and law
How many days can someone work under casual employment?
The short answer
With the same employer, at most 5 consecutive calendar days, 15 days in a calendar month and 120 days in a year. The annual cap rose from 90 to 120 days on 1 January 2026. Tracking the limits is the employer's responsibility, so yours on the coordination track and ours on the fully managed one.
Why that is
In practice this bites hardest on multi-day festivals and longer roadshows. A seven-day festival cannot be covered by the same crew under casual employment, because the five-day limit intervenes: you have to rotate, and that belongs in the rota from the start rather than being noticed on day six.
If the need is continuous rather than occasional, the answer isn't to push the limit but to change the form. For regular, scheduled work, staff leasing is the appropriate arrangement, and in Hungary that is a licensed activity.
