Statutory day limits
Also known as: Casual work day limits
Definition
Casual work carries day limits: at most 5 consecutive days, 15 days in a month and 120 days in a year with the same employer.
In practice
The limits apply per worker per employer, and from 1 January 2026 the annual cap rose from 90 to 120 days. In practice this bites hardest on multi-day festivals and longer roadshows, where the crew has to rotate or move to a different employment form. Tracking the limits is the employer's responsibility.
